SENIOR SOFTWARE BUSINESS ANALYST

SmartCheck Platform  ·  SmartIT  ·  Sofia, Bulgaria

About SmartIT

SmartIT is a Bulgarian technology company with a strong track record in building sophisticated, enterprise-grade financial platforms for partners across Europe and beyond. We design and deliver adaptive, scalable solutions that sit at the heart of our clients' operations — from credit lifecycle managemt to full-spectrum financial platforms.

We believe that the quality of what we build is a direct reflection of the people behind it. We are intentional about responsible growth, long-term partnerships, and a culture where craftsmanship and collaboration go hand in hand.

The SmartCheck Platform

SmartCheck is our flagship financial product management platform, purpose-built to give our banking and financial services partners the tools they need to design, launch, and govern complex financial products at scale. The platform combines a rules-driven product engine with real-time eligibility, pricing, and lifecycle management — enabling partners to move faster without sacrificing control or compliance.

We are in an active growth phase, expanding SmartCheck's capabilities across new product verticals and markets. Every requirement we define and every feature we ship directly shapes how financial institutions serve their customers.

The Role

As a Senior Software Business Analyst on the SmartCheck team, you will be the connective tissue between business intent and technical delivery. You will own your functional domain end-to-end — from deep-diving into stakeholder needs and shaping requirements, through guiding engineering and QA, to ensuring the delivered product genuinely solves the right problems.

This is a senior-level position: you will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, bring your own perspective to product decisions, mentor colleagues on BA practice, and actively contribute to how the team works — not just what it delivers.

Key Responsibilities

Domain ownership & stakeholder engagement

Own a dedicated functional area of the SmartCheck platform, serving as the primary BA contact for your domain across business and engineering.

Partner with product managers, business stakeholders, and client representatives to deeply understand needs, surface implicit requirements, and resolve ambiguity early.

Act as the voice of the customer throughout the entire product realization cycle — from discovery to release — ensuring business intent is never lost in translation.

Requirements & solution design

Elicit, analyse, and structure requirements into well-formed user stories with clear acceptance criteria that are unambiguous, complete, and directly testable.

Produce process models, data flows, wireframes, specifications, and supporting diagrams that give engineers and QA a precise, shared understanding of the scope.

Propose and evaluate solution approaches and business process changes, weighing trade-offs across feasibility, compliance, and user impact.

Collaborate with engineering in pre-analysis of features and epics to inform release planning estimates.

Delivery & quality

Work within an agile delivery team, managing scope and priority changes without compromising quality or agreed timelines.

Serve as a key participant at stakeholder demos — translating delivery progress into clear business language.

Prepare and maintain documentation in line with internal standards, including functional specifications, decision logs, and user manuals.

Collaborate with QA teams to validate that acceptance criteria are correctly interpreted in test scenarios.

Continuous improvement & team contribution

Monitor industry trends in financial technology and product management, proactively identifying opportunities to improve the platform.

Coach and support other business analysts, sharing knowledge and raising the overall quality of BA outputs.

Champion clarity and rigor in how the team captures, tracks, and communicates requirements — and actively improve the processes that govern this.

What You Bring

Essential

Bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Mathematics, or a closely related field.

5+ years of hands-on business analysis experience in software product development environments.

Solid experience working with financial systems — ERP, CRM, banking platforms, payment systems, or financial product engines.

Strong command of agile delivery methodologies (Kanban); comfortable working in iterative, fast-moving teams.

Proven ability to decompose complex business needs into well-structured user stories, acceptance criteria, and process documentation.

Experience facilitating requirements workshops, refinement sessions, and demos with mixed technical and non-technical audiences.

Proficiency with Jira and Confluence (or equivalent ALM/documentation tooling).

Excellent written and spoken English — you will be producing documentation and communicating with international stakeholders daily.

Advantageous

Hands-on experience in the financial services domain — lending, payments, deposits, fees and pricing, or regulatory compliance.

Familiarity with REST API documentation and data mapping (ability to read Swagger/OpenAPI specifications is a meaningful plus).

Experience with SQL or structured data querying for requirements validation or analysis.

Practical use of AI tools to accelerate BA workflows — from requirement drafting through gap analysis and documentation generation to process optimizations and automations.

Any relevant certification (CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, or equivalent) is a welcome differentiator.

What We Offer

Option for flexible working arrangements (on site + home office)

30 days of paid annual leave.

     Comprehensive health insurance.

Food vouchers and healthy office snacks (fruits, nuts, beverages).

MultiSport card at a discounted rate.

Company-sponsored training, professional certifications, and access to e-learning platforms.

Smart mobile phone and sponsored mobile plan.

Regular team events, celebrations, and a dedicated recreation space.

The opportunity to shape a growing platform that handles real financial complexity — with the autonomy to make your mark on how it's built.
